Official province portals

Each province has its own portal. Use the one for the province where your transport office is located:

If you already hold a Nepali driving licence and want to ride or drive another vehicle class, you can add that category online. The process runs on your province's licence portal and is completed at your transport office. It is shorter than a new licence, but it still includes a medical checkup and a trial.

Portal steps, in order

1. Answer whether you are a foreign national. Foreign nationals follow the document verification route.
2. Enter your licence number, choosing the old or new format as printed on the card.
3. Enter your NID number, upload the NID scan, and enter your date of birth in the AD calendar and your email.
4. Enter the OTP sent to your mobile and email.
5. Complete the medical checkup.
6. Select your transport office and submit the request.
7. Wait for office approval.
8. Pay the add-fee online.
9. Book your trial date. Tractor licence holders also book a written exam.

Filling in the form

The licence number must match the format printed on your card, so check it before you continue. Your NID details must match the NID record. Use a mobile number and email that are in your own name, because the OTP is sent to both.

Medical checkup

Use a listed doctor, where the fee is Rs. 150. In Bagmati and Koshi you must go to the nearest transport management office. Koshi adds an extra Rs. 300 there.

Approval and payment

The office checks the form and approves it. It may ask you to upload more documents, so track the application regularly. Once approved, pay online with eSewa, Khalti, ConnectIPS or NepalPay QR.

Exams

Most applicants go straight to the trial. Holders of a tractor licence also sit the written exam first. The form allows three trial attempts. You retry only if you fail. After three failed trials you must fill a new form.
