How to fill the form online

Choose the NID route if you have your National ID number. Enter the NID number in the format printed on the card, upload a clear scan (image or PDF, up to 2 MB), and enter your own mobile number and email. Click Continue, then enter the OTP sent to both.

Official province portals

Each province has its own portal. Use the one for the province where your transport office is located:

Fastest and easiest way: use our app

Searching each portal by hand takes time. Our app, Driving License Nepal, gathers all the province portals and a step-by-step guide for every service in one place. It is the fastest and easiest way to apply. Download Driving License Nepal from Google Play, open How to Apply, choose your service, and follow the steps.

Getting a new driving licence in Nepal is now an online process. It starts on your province's licence portal and continues at your local transport office, so you do not need to visit an office to begin. This guide walks through the whole route in the order the portal presents it, so you know what to expect at each stage.

Portal steps, in order

  1. Choose a registration method: NID, Citizen App QR, passport (foreign nationals) or diplomatic ID.
  2. Enter your NID number, upload a clear NID scan (image or PDF, up to 2 MB), and enter your mobile number and email.
  3. Enter the OTP sent to both your mobile and your email.
  4. Complete the medical checkup.
  5. Select your transport office and submit the request.
  6. Wait for office approval and watch SMS and email for notices.
  7. Pay online with eSewa, Khalti, ConnectIPS or NepalPay QR.
  8. Book your written exam date.
  9. After passing the written test, book your trial date.
  10. Pay the licence fee and receive your licence.

Registration

Use the NID route unless you have a reason to use another. Enter the NID number exactly as printed, choosing the format that matches your card. Your mobile number and email must be in your own name, because OTPs are sent to both, and a second OTP can be sent to the email if the SMS does not arrive.

NID verification

The details you type must match your NID record. If they do not, the portal will not let you proceed. New applicants whose NID check fails must visit the office for biometric registration.

Medical checkup

The checkup can be done with a listed doctor for Rs. 150. In Bagmati and Koshi provinces you must go to the nearest transport management office instead. Koshi charges an extra Rs. 300 at the office.

Submitting and approval

Submit the request only after your medical result is passed, and choose the office that will handle your file. The office verifies the form and approves it. During this stage the office may ask for more documents, so check your application regularly through Application Tracking.

Payment

After approval, pay online. The accepted methods are eSewa, Khalti, ConnectIPS and NepalPay QR.

Exams

New applicants sit the written exam first. You get the trial only after you pass the written test. If you fail the written test, wait at least one month, then start again from the beginning. Once you pass the written exam, the form allows three trial attempts. You retry only if you fail; after three failed trials, fill a new form.

Licence

After you pass the exams and pay the licence fee, your licence is generated. Keep the Applicant ID and the QR-code PDF that the portal gives you after each submission. If you lose the QR code, use Application Tracking with your Applicant ID.

Start on your own province's portal. For example, the Gandaki portal is edlvrs.gandaki.gov.np/edl.
