In the previous local elections, there were 14 million voters. The voter list last updated by the commission in December last year has reached 16.2 million voters.
According to the spokesperson of the commission Shaligram Sharma Poudel, it is estimated that 1.5 million more voters have been added since then. The Election Commission has set up 10,756 polling stations in Nepal.
The election was held in three phases in 2074 BS. The first round of local elections was held on April 13, 2008 after the new constitution envisaged a three-tier federal structure.
The election of Kathmandu (Municipality) held on June 12, 2004 in Nepal has been considered as the first election in the history of the country.
